Course Title:  CACHE Understand how to set up a Home-Based Childcare Service

Course Description

CACHE Understand how to set up a Home-Based Childcare Service is the Ofsted registration course for home-based childcarers. As well as covering essential skills and knowledge required by Ofsted for working with children (known as the Common Core of Skills and Knowledge for the Children’s Workforce), our course helps childminders to prepare for providing a childcare service in their own home.

Course content

The course is structured around 7 key learning outcomes:

  • How to set up a home-based childcare service
  • Establishing a safe and healthy home-based environment for children
  • Principles of development of routines for home-based childcare
  • How to provide play and other activities for children in a home-based setting which will support equality and inclusion
  • How to support the safeguarding of children in home-based care
  • Principles of supporting positive behaviour in home-based childcare settings

Delivery & Support

The course is delivered as a 1-2-1 personalised online home study course so you can work through the course independently, at your own pace, while receiving regular individualised support from your tutor.,

The online delivery includes a portfolio of evidence (online coursework):

  • Provides you with the knowledge required for the course
  • Stores your assignments for you and your personal 1-2-1 tutor to access
  • Tracks your progress and gives you indication of your anticipated completion
  • Communicates between learner and tutor (assessor) via email and telephone

By special arrangement with local authorities, our Understand Home-Based Childcare course can also be delivered as classroom based training or a mixture of classroom and online support.

Duration

As a flexible provider, we have designed the course for you to complete in 4 weeks to 3 months.

Assessment & Support

As the home-based childcare course is a knowledge based unit, most of the tasks are written assignments. Assessment can also include the following methods:

  • Case studies
  • Oral questioning

Progression

You may wish to use the Progress Points (equivalent to 4 credits) you will gain from completing this course to save you time and money on the full Level 3 award, the CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce.

£186 including VAT for the full course.  You can spread the cost over 3 months by using our installment option.
